Lorien Wood is a Christ-centered private school in Vienna, Virginia, serving PreK – 12th grade. The Preschool or Junior Kindergarten Teacher is a part-time role, responsible for creating a nurturing, developmentally appropriate classroom grounded in the school’s Christ-centered mission. Day-to-day responsibilities include planning and delivering lessons that support early childhood development, integrating play-based and exploratory learning, and encouraging social, emotional, and spiritual growth. The Preschool Teacher will design and implement age-appropriate activities, monitor student progress, and maintain a safe, orderly, and welcoming learning environment. This role collaborates closely with colleagues and families through regular communication, parent conferences, and participation in school events to support each child’s holistic development. Our Junior Kindergarten program is called The Shire and meets three days a week Tuesday through Thursday from 8:45 am to 1:15 pm; with an option to add a fourth day on Mondays, depending on the demand and teacher availability. The school year runs from Labor Day to Memorial Day. Our Shire program is part of the overall curriculum arc of our entire school. Since students may be in the Shire for two years, we have a two-year curriculum: Year 1 – God’s Explorers: A-Z Adventures in God’s Word and World and Year 2 – The ABC’s of God’s Character. Students in the Shire are ages 3-5 and must be potty-trained.
